Recrafting Memory as a Poem
Recrafting Memory as a Poem
February 15th
6-7:30pm
In this workshop, writers will analyze “The Way Through the Woods” by Rudyard Kipling. Using this as a reference point, they will then craft their own poems based on a memory from their own life. This can be a single moment, multiple moments, or a period of time in their life.
Facilitated by Gabriela Llarena.
Gabriela Llarena is a Cuban/Filipino artist who specializes in acting and poetry. Receiving her BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, she studied poetry in Paris, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, and Havana. Gabriela is associated with the artist group Working Titles based out of New York, with whom she published her first chapbook “The Things She Left Behind,” and is an Artist-in-Residence at Self Designs Art Gallery in Downtown Sacramento. In 2021, her love of poetry led Gabriela to begin taking commissions for personalized poems for all occasions including: wedding favors, friendships, Valentine’s Day, birthdays/anniversaries, and remembrance poetry for those in grief.
Alongside commissions, Gabriela focuses on mentorship to create accessibility to poetry for all. Between workshops in person and over zoom and one-on-one 8 month mentorships, Gabriela has led those of all ages to feel confidence in their poetic ability.
